Loudoun Road Club has been part of Ayrshire's cycling scene for over 45 years. What started as a small group of local riders has grown into one of the most successful clubs in the region — our members have taken Scottish and Ayrshire titles over the decades, and our history includes a former World Hour Record holder and track World Champion.
We've grown considerably over the last few years. Today we're a close-knit club of around 70–80 members, with a regular core of 20–30 riders out on the road most weeks — small enough that you'll know everyone's name by your third ride, big enough that there's always someone to ride with.
Road, gravel, and everything between
The name says road club, and road riding is still at our heart — but we've broadened out. Regular gravel rides at Whitelees Wind Farm, mountain biking days, and off-road adventures like our Loch Doon loop sit alongside our busy road calendar. Wherever you like to ride, there's a good chance we're already doing it.
Our events run the full range too — from a laid-back Sunday coffee run to a full club championship of time trials and hill climbs across the season. Whatever draws you to a bike, you'll find your people here.
Steady Pace
We'll be upfront with you: this club has a reputation for being quick. It's not entirely undeserved - even our "social" rides have a habit of picking up speed, and it's a bit of a running joke among members that words like easy, steady and social used to describe the pace often mean the same thing - quite spirited!
But don't let that put you off. We know such a reputation can make a club feel harder to walk into than it should - but in our case we work hard to welcome new members and organise rides to suit most paces. There are real beginner-friendly options on our calendar: our Welcome Ride to open the season, our End of Month Socials (last sat of each month), and our regular Sunday Cafe Rides, often with multiple groups and paces in mind. Come along to one of those first, and you'll see the club at its most relaxed - and yes, that may still include the odd spurt of faster than expected pace…There’s always someone guilty of stretching their legs!
What we can promise is this: join the club and spend time with our members on as many rides as you can over a season, and you will get fitter, stronger and faster. That’s just what happens.
A club for everyone
Loudoun Road Club is affiliated to British Cycling, and membership is open to anyone with an interest in cycling - whatever your age, ability, background, or how you got into the sport. We're especially keen to welcome more women into the club and we've been proud to support events like the Ayrshire Women's Cycle Festival in the past.
Every member has the right to ride, race and socialise with us free from harassment or discrimination of any kind - that's not just a nice sentiment, it's written into our club constitution.
Curious about joining LRC but not sure?
We are a friendly and welcoming bunch and really love to hear from budding new members. Send us a quick message and we’ll get in touch to answer any questions you might have and hopefully have you joining us on a ride in the very near future!
